Description: Widen 2.5 miles of Route 138. The project required Rasmussen to place 13,000 cy of Lean concrete Base and place 18,000 TN of Asphalt Concrete. Rasmussen set over 2 miles of K-Rail to complete the project in 2 phases.

I-5 Colorado Bridge Off Ramp Widening

Description: Rasmussen widen the existing North Bound off ramp at Colorado St on Interstate 5. As part of the project the off ramp widening included the widening of the exiting bridge that crossed the Los Angeles River. Rasmussen had to work closely with CALTRANS and various environmental groups while working over the existing river to ensure there were no environmental impact in the river during construction.

Description: Remove and replacement of 85,000 TNS of Rubberized Hot Mix Asphalt on HWY 118. Remove and Replacement of 2,000 CY of concrete freeway sections with Rapid Set Concrete. Rasmussen performed 80% of the work at night under live traffic. At completion 14 miles of freeway were resurfaced and striped by Rasmussen.

118 Fwy Widening & Soundwalls

Description: This Caltrans project widened a 6 mile stretch of the 118 Freeway in Simi Valley. It included the widening of four bridges, construction of 3 miles of soundwalls, and construction of an additional lane of traffic in the eastbound center median. The project also included about 12 miles of communication system to allow of monitoring of traffic along the freeway.

I-5 and Western Avenue Ramps and Retaining Walls

Description: The modification of on- and off-ramps at Western Avenue along the northbound Interstate 5 was built to relieve traffic congestion in the area, which is home to several entertainment companies, including Walt Disney Co. and ABC-7. The ramps were relocated to flow onto Flower Street rather than Western Avenue. The new off-ramp was constructed to widen from two to four lanes of traffic. Other work on the project included construction of retaining walls, utility relocation, and existing buildings being vacated and demolished before construction could begin. For its ability to work closely with Caltrans, subcontractors and neighboring businesses on this project, C. A. Rasmussen, Inc. was a gold level winner for the 2013 Caltrans Excellence in Partnering Awards.

Description: The Hwy 150 rock weir job was a fish ladder built from rip rap to restore Steelhead migration up Santa Paula Creek. The first season of work saw many delays as Caltrans redesigned the diversion system. Originally planned to be staked to the ground, the redesign called for the 3-foot diversion pipe to be hung from large chains attached to rock bolts drilled into the cliff. The project included 7,000 tons of Class 3 permeable base; 7,900 tons of 2-ton rip rap; and 2,700 tons of 6-ton rock weirs.
